Tennis Valley is renowned almost as much for its fabulous social events as it is for the quality tennis players who represent the club in competition and the results they achieve.
Each year there are major social functions held in conjunction with the four ATP Grand Slam tournaments – the Australian Open (January/February), French Open (May/June), Wimbledon (June/July) and US Open (August/September).
There are also regular ‘End of Comp.’ dinners, fundraising events (ten pin bowling, trivia nights, etc.) and BBQs put on at the club just for the fun of it. And then of course there’s the piece de resistance held in December each year… Col’s Famous Prawn & Chicken Night.
Don’t miss a note at Eastern Lounge this year. Only three more shows guaranteed... great music, live and local at your Club.
You’re invited to Feel the Manouche!
Tennis Valley’s brilliant live music venue, Eastern Lounge, may only be staging three more shows. The first of these will be held on Friday February 10. The line-up for what could be our 3rd last show ever is a ripper.
We kick-start the night with Van Sereno - a songwriter who has supported Christine Anu, Vanessa Amarosi, Diesel, Andrew Roachford and John Legend and counts Bobby McFerrin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Prince, Ben Harper and Jack Johnson among his influences. He comes to Eastern lounge highly recommended by Lounge Lizard favourite, Claude Hay.
Then we welcome the highly talented duo, Beth ‘n Ben to the stage. The songs these two write span everything from Blues, Roots and Reggae to Jazz, Soul and Rock. Their fusion of genre and tongue in cheek writing style consistently turn heads and get the crowds moving wherever they perform. They’ve played alongside The Beautiful Girls, supported Chris Isaak and last year their track ‘Little Lady’ hit the No. 1 spot on Triple J’s Unearthed Roots Chart.
Then to our headline act... Feel the Manouche. This amazing ‘Gypsy Jazz’ band features the incomparable George Washingmachine who’s hosted Jazz in the Domain, composed the music for the Qantas Business Class Lounge commercial and has written everything from Rock ‘n Roll Nursery rhymes for Mr Squiggle to music for the Bell Shakespeare Company. He’s the voice behind the Banana Boat ad. campaign, has appeared in TV shows like A Country Practice and has also worked in theatre, sharing the stage with acting luminaries from Richard Roxborough to Geoffrey Rush and David Wenham.
This band exudes a strong melodic groove that can take on gypsy waltzes, swing jazz, choro and many other flavours of music from our diverse planet.
We’re always looking for club members who are happy to volunteer to help the social sub-committee make our events as successful as possible. If you’d like to volunteer to help out in a specific capacity, please e-mail us today.
